You are probably here because you scarcely got a original device on your hands. And after unboxing information technology and turning it connected you discovered that your SIM card doesn't fit inwardly the new one-armed bandit! This actually just happened to me after upgrading to a Galaxy 6S Edge from my beloved Nexus 5. Been there, done that. I'm with you on this unmatched.
It doesn't thing wether you had an old phone with a diarrheal-shrew-sized SIM card or a newer phone with Micro SIM – you can edit the SIM card to fit inside your new device in just a few minutes!
Disclaimer: Do it at your own risk. Trendblog takes no more responsibility to whatsoever damage to the SIM card and/or phone.
Having said that, it's actually quite easy to do if you travel along the guide below.
What you will motivation:
- Your SIM calling card
- A cutting template (you have to print it yourself)
- Kitchen tongue or good scissors
Facultative:
- Videotape (chewing gum will as wel do the trick)
- Sand paper or nail file
SIM card cutting template
Clipping a SIM card without a template might lead to you destroying it, sol don't do that unless you have a SIM card cutter. First things first, go ahead and download a template, which the guys over at GoSoftWorks prepared for you.
- Templet for letter ninepenny paper
- Template for A4 theme
When printing the cutting guide, make sure to NOT check the alternative "Tally to page" or any other setting that might alteration the sized of the original document for printing.
How to cut a Micro SIM card to Nano SIM
- Align your SIM bill with the templet, contacts upbound
- Secure it in property with tape or a piece of mastication gumwood (yup, information technology works besides)
- If the SIM card is bigger or smaller than the template – print it once more with different settings. This is crucial to making the far-right cuts.
- Align your kitchen knife with the guides and depress happening the SIM card to make water markers for later
- Start with the 45 degree angle cut (freighter right edge)
- Complete the cuts with a important kitchen knife or good scissors grip
Only attempt to cut the SIM card with very good scissors, otherwise you might breakout it. My preferred method acting is using a Chef's Knife, placing it on the markers (from Step 2) and gradually increasing the pressure to make a clean cut. Repeat that 5 multiplication and you will end up with your almost finished Nano SIM card.
Call back: it's always better to cut off to a lesser extent. Don't try to be super pinpoint if you fear destroying your card. Cut just a tiny bit less soured than you actually need to, you can e'er Sand the edges later for the perfect suited. If you postulate to sand down your late Nano SIM to make it go, only sand the edges. Don't sand the gold contact!
Some SIM scorecard's gold contact will atomic number 4 larger than others. This means that some of you will actually need to write out a part of the gold contact to make the SIM card fit into the young slot. Don't worry though. Impartial stick to the guides from the template and your SIM wit will be just fine. If your SIM card happens to have a bigger than usual gilded get through and you'rhenium afraid of cutting it – just do it. Your card will work evenhanded like it's supposed to.
SIM Card Dimensions
There are three standards of SIM cards that are commonly used in phones: Mini-SIM (we know it every bit the "regular" SIM card), Micro-SIM and Nano-SIM.
- Miniskirt-SIM – 25 mm x 15 millimetre x 0.76 millimetre (elevation x breadth x astuteness)
- Micro-SIM – 15 millimetre x 12 millimetre x 0.76 mm
- Nano-SIM – 12.3 millimetre x 8.8 mm x 0.67 mm
As you can see, Nano-SIM cards are slenderly thinner than Mini- and Micro SIMs. Even so, even if you cut a Micro-SIM to burst into a Nano-SIM tray, you should be just fine.
